Riverwoods Behavioral Health is seeking an experienced Director of Outpatient Services to lead and expand our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). About the Role

 

The Director of Outpatient Services is responsible for the strategic direction, clinical excellence, operational performance, and growth of the facility's PHP and IOP programs.

 

This leader will oversee program operations, develop referral relationships, drive census growth, support exceptional patient outcomes, and ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Director serves as a key member of the leadership team, helping patients successfully transition across the behavioral healthcare continuum while building strong partnerships throughout the community.


Key Responsibilities

 

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the day-to-day operations, clinical excellence, and growth of the facility's PHP and IOP programs.
  • Drive key performance outcomes, including census growth, patient retention, financial performance, patient satisfaction, and clinical quality metrics.
  • Develop and maintain strong referral relationships while supporting business development, community outreach, and admissions growth initiatives.
  • Collaborate with hospital, divisional, and corporate leadership to advance strategic initiatives, enhance care continuity, and expand outpatient services.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing multidisciplinary team through effective hiring, onboarding, supervision, and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, licensure, accreditation, and quality standards, including Joint Commission, CMS, and state requirements.
  • Monitor program performance, implement process improvements, and utilize patient outcome and satisfaction data to optimize care delivery and operational effectiveness.
  • Maintain oversight of clinical documentation, program policies and procedures, and service delivery standards to ensure exceptional patient care.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in a behavioral health field required.
  • Active, unrestricted clinical licensure required (LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, LPC, PsyD, PhD, or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in behavioral healthcare.
  • At least 2 years of leadership, management, or operational oversight experience.
  • Experience overseeing PHP and/or IOP programs strongly preferred.
  • Experience in acute psychiatric hospitals, behavioral health facilities, and/or residential substance use disorder (SUD) treatment settings preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, drive program growth, and achieve operational objectives.

Licensure Requirements
Current, unrestricted clinical licensure in the state of practice, or eligibility to obtain licensure, required.
Acceptable credentials include LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, LPC, PsyD, or PhD (Clinical, Counseling, or Educational Psychology).

Provides supervision, coaching, and performance management for outpatient program staff.
