Overview

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

 

The Medical Director of Military Programs provides guidance and direction to Acadia Healthcare’s Military & Family Support department; reviews and evaluates current specialized programs within the portfolio and serves as the authority for program improvements and development.  This position includes travel throughout the network of Acadia programs as well as travel to military installations to share information about Acadia’s military programs with key personnel.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Work closely with the Director of Military Affairs to strategize ways in which to increase current patient volume and increase program efficiencies.
  2. Put Acadia on a path to be the leader in military specialized treatment by staying abreast of DoD guidelines and cutting-edge therapies to treat the effects of PTS, TBI and SUD.
  3. Provide expert guidance and advice on all aspects of policy development, clinical protocols, diagnosing and prescribing in accordance with the U.S. Department of Defense guidelines
  4. Provide insight and recommendations as to future program development and identify opportunities for implementation of emerging technologies and treatment modalities related to behavioral health.
  5. Assist in the development of specialized military focused service centers with varying specialties (i.e. TBI program center of excellence, Sexual Trauma program)
  6. Provide service recovery with existing accounts and work with MFS team to expand the current book of business to include military installations outside the scope of our existing customer base.
  7. Develop, review and update MFS Standards of Care to ensure continuing currency and relevance in guiding management and employees.
  8. Assess and identify areas of improvement within existing programs.
  9. Identify new business opportunities through outreach to existing contacts.
  10. Providing support (as needed) to the Director of Military Affairs in securing new business and providing service recovery as appropriate.
  11. Ensure programs follow current standards and expectations of its customers to include Department of Defense (DoD), and that behavior in the organization meets the company’s Standards of Conduct.
  12. Define protocols and assist in decision making pertaining to the medical and clinical care of patients.
  13. Develop, approve, implement and update the general policies, protocols and procedures of the Military programs.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Medical Doctor/Psychiatrist
  • A minimum of seven years’ experience in psychiatric healthcare operations at the administrative/leadership level. Previous specialized program operations/healthcare industry experience preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years in management and supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of the Joint Commission, CMS, CARF, and CHAMPUS standards and regulations.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and drive business results in a behavioral health environment is required.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office; especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of office administration procedures with the ability to operate most standard office equipment.
  • Ability to work professionally with sensitive, proprietary data and information while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively and professionally with individuals at all levels; both internal and external.
  • Exercises sound judgment in responding to inquiries; understands when to route inquiries to the next level.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and superior attention to detail.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously within inflexible time frames. Ability to adapt to frequent priority changes.
  • Capable of working within established policies, procedures, and practices prescribed by the organization.
  • English sufficient to provide and receive instructions/directions.
